  12. Apparently, they took the money and ran. There's a fellow on Portal
  13. who, in our nightly chats, has told us of going thru the same thing
  14. you did, except he took his hunt further, to the Santa Barbara CA
  15. District Atty's office. Found out that Cybernetica's office was
  16. closed, that none of the 3 or 4 guys who made up the company could
  17. be located anywhere. Quite a scam they pulled. If you ever see
  18. your $200 again you'll be lucky.

  20. My suggestion: 
  21. 1. Don't ever pre-order any product that you don't know for a fact
  22. is shipping yet.

  24. 2. If you ignore #1, then use a credit card so you have some fair
  25. chance to get the money back if the co. vanishes.

  27. This is not the first time the Amiga community has been screwed like
  28. this.

  30. Friend of mine paid in advance at a company's booth at the last
  31. WOCA show in Pasadena (Fall of '93) for a $250 software product
  32. that "wasn't quite shipping yet but we're taking pre-orders."
  33. SIX MONTHS LATER he still didn't have delivery of it. Luckily
  34. he used a credit card and managed to get a full credit. All the
  35. time, that co. had merrily been running ads in the usual mags for
  36. the same product.

  38. Please remember, folks, anyone with a paint program can make a very sexy lookin
  39. g
  40. product ad for a product that doesn't exist. Before you throw money
  41. at a new product, make sure it's actually shipping and/or that someone
  42. you know/trust is in possession of it. There ARE a lot of small
  43. software companies out there who are honest, reputable, and deliver
  44. what they advertise. Unfortunately there are also a lot of them who 
  45. are scam artists. It pays to investigate and be careful.
